I just ran this 14 mile trail run up and down the escarpment at Devil's Lake in Baraboo. It's still hard to describe just how great the experience was. First a visit to the Leopold Center, built on the 240 foot deep ancient glacial lake sand of the sand counties, that Leopold named his book after.
Then thousands of feet of climbing and descending the woodland trails. Somehow running up for 3 miles at the start, then 11 miles from the finish, enduring. The spirit of the place carrying one past the physical limits, right into the metaphysical.
This makes all the days trail running to get ready even better. A little bit of every trail infuses through the psyche into every other trail. Pretty soon the trail becomes your real life, and your "real" life a detour from the trail.
