Something we all can make  the new House Energy and Commerce Comittee Chairman Henry Waxman aware of, upon the ouster of the former chairman, auto industry shill and enabler  John Dingell.

The GHG climate change tipping point is a well worn scientific theory.

The recessionary tipping point is  looming just  beyond the collective  conceptual horizon.

To understand when and how a recssion takes on its own momentum and becomes a global depression, a comparison with climate change is most helpfull.  The tipping point for climate change will occur when positive feedback mechanisms kick in and take over the climate.

For instance; as tundra thaws methane is released, methane is a 21 times more potent GHG than CO2, the main GHG from combustion.  As methane pushes temperature extremes up, more tundra melts and more mehane is released.  That's positive feedback.

At a certain point factors like this, that exhibit positive feedback, such as ice melting driving increased solar absorption from the darker surface, fires driving increasing GHG and less CO2 uptake by vegetation, and GHG related drought causing more fires; drives climate change past the point where human intervention or natural counter effects can stop the trend.

Recession has the same kind of positive feedback tipping point where it changes into depression.  Energy costs soar, especially gasoline, consumers spend less money, businesses lose sales and profit so jobs are lost, and layed off workers spend even less...driving the downturn.

Both of these tipping points need to be averted.  Both can be averted by quick action.  What would that be?

Reduction of oil use incremetally year after year  by substituting renewable electric powered transportation.  Plugin hybrids and renewable electric powered mass transit and freight trains.

The manufacturing boom involved in this incremental switch is the stimulus needed to pull us out of this recssion and climate change before the respective tipping points.

The quick action necessary is a prodiction contract,a million plugin hybrid economy cars per year for government use, just as government ended the great depression with WW2 production orders for tanks, jeeps, trucks, planes, ships, and so forth.

Don't listen to mass media, economists and politicans, they are not warning us about the tipping points.  I doubt many of them even understand positive feedback, exponential change, and tipping points. Consult your common sense and call your legislators today, insist on action before it's too late.

We really don't want to repeat the great depression and the dust bowl, do we?  Climate change will make it much much worse this time around.
