How to reduce oil demand incrementally year after year in order to stabilize the global economy?
What is needed is an OPEC for consumer nations. The oil importing countries getting together to "drill, baby, drill" efficiency and renewable energy for oil demand reduction.
OPEC puts a billion into a new oil field, we put 10 billion into mass production of solar, wind, plugin hybrids, ground source heating systems, and smart grid technology.
Who will have the upper hand then? That 'big stick" can then be used to get OPEC to go along with a stable transition out of the age of oil (and coal) towards the age of universally available clean, stable priced energy, conservation, and low impact living.
And end recession/depression along with GHG:
"...a new rationale for promoting green investments is beginning to emerge. Many luminaries, from the head of the United Nations Environment Programme to Barack Obama, America’s president-elect, tout the industry as a means both to address global warming and stimulate flagging Western economies. Reports enumerating the economic benefits of state support for clean technology, in the form of industries fostered and jobs created, abound"
