I think I see a logical inconsistency. American car makers are behind in the development of plug-in and your plan assumes that they use them as power plants, small, very efficient range extenders rather than all the belch fire engines that they are tooled to make. Otherwise, the cars simply are lighter yet produce the same pollution and sales going up is not a good thing.

BTW: a great deal of hyper light design already is employed with some of the innovative electric cars to offset the weight of the batteries. And Hypercar is a trademark.

Well actually I am pointing out that the plugin range, by covering most daily driving, reduces fuel consumption drastically.

With only a 30 mile range, the average daily drive of 23 miles is covered by electricity. That charge is obtained from the power grid in overnight or recharge while at work, school, or even shopping, as smart grid devices are used to keep track of kwhs and billing anywhere you plug in.

That's true, Hypercar and Fiber Forge are trademarks. A few lighter parts for vehicles is a good trend, but it won't save the US auto industry. Conversion from steel to carbon will. Because it will make even regular gas guzzlers more efficient.

The main advantage of carbon is that it allows a 50 hp electric motor, in a Hypercar, produce similar performance to a steel gas guzzler with three times the hp, like the Volt. It has 160 hp.

Heavier steel car? More power consumption, heavier, more expensive batteries, heavier backup generator. The Volt is on the wrong side of this effect. Much lighter Hypercars need less expensive, lighter batteries to get the same range. using carbon design to its best effect.

1300 kg/2860 pounds. A plugin hybrid Hypercar with better than Prius plugin conversion peformance, a 40 mile battery range and full speed and power on batteries alone.

1200 pounds maybe? 100+ mpg even in backup generator mode using gasoline. That would save the US auto industry, it would beat everyone. And prove that green is glory. Reviving US manufacturing and world leadership.
