Re: A possible compromise on nuclear power?
    by amazngdrx
Well good for you, let's hope that the waste processing reactors can be operated as safely as the plant near you. If so maybe nuclear power will prove to be a cost effective enerfy source in the future. I remain skeptical about the cost and operational safety myself. But if and when the legacies of three mile island, chernobyl, hanford, Rocky Flats, Oak Ridge and the other nuclear nightmares managed by nuclear industry experts can be proven to be anomalies for which the new plants can account and correct for, then and only then should a massive build out of nuclear power be relied upon as a safe future solution to global warming. If at the end of the 10 year trial period it can compete without the huge subsidies in place, including the break from congress on liability, with other clean energy sources, we ought to give it another chance. I would add that if you have voluntarily smoked all those years you may not be the best qualified to access possible risks to the public. Are you aware if your area has evacuation plans or has issued emergency procedures and equipment for use by local emergency authorities?
