It is distressing to see "right to work" (anti-union) GOP lawmakers and radio/teevee wing nuts talking about chapter 11 for US automakers. Industry reform, in the form of plugin hybrids, is being overlooked. Auto execs flew corporate jets to DC for yesterday's grilling by congress. At that point legislators ought to have called loudly for replacement of these know-nothing dolts as the first condition of a bailout. The next condition? No bailout, instead a contract for 1 million plugin hybrids economy cars per year for government use. Just like uncle sam ordered millions of jeeps, tanks, and planes for WW2. The first money lent against the contract to bridge the transition to the new energy economy. This would restore confidence. End the age of oil, start the new renewable electric energy economy. That's a non-violent battle that can end recession and restore the gHG climate balance. Once again media and government have not only dropped the ball, but they lost it. Obama better address this situation and help them find it. the collective mass consciousness needs refocusing, that's why Obama won, to lead that effort. Just like FDR did during the great depression/WW2 era. We may have plugin hybrids we can afford sooner than you think. Meanwhile, why was the notion of diverting oil industry subsidies (18 billion per year) to fund plugin hybrid production sidelined? Mass delusional media is a big dumb leviathan. It needs a shock to get moving, will the crash in world markets do that? We'll see. Every day reform is delayed could mean another month of this looming greater depression. Shall we go for a 10 year financial disaster? 20 years? What say you main stream media and lawmakers?
