Solar cogeneration is already here..sort of.
Actually this device employs a fresnel lense to concenrare the solar energy 400 times on a solar cell cooled with water.

The excess heat is transferred to the water, now if one collected that heat? Well then the efficiency of only 10% of the PV cells would have solar water heating added on to it.
Now imagine your normal solar panel enhanced with say, reflectors that allowed them to produce maximum power even in cloudy conditions and early morning until late afternoon.
The number of kwh would maybe triple in a typical partilly cloudy climate? That cuts the cost per kwh, already reported to be 25 to 50 cents per kwh, to be 8 to 16 cents per kwh.
